Roy is a fourth generation carriage driver, his family have been driving horses and carriages since the early 1800s. His father, Peter Munt won the bronze medal for FEI driving and holds the record for Coaching shows, being unbeaten for 10 years at all the UK events.
Roy himself is a member of the "Coaching Club of Great Britain" and now lives and trains in the USA and competes in many pleasure shows around the world.
He also trains many students and lots of them go on to do very well in driving events such as winning the Devon Carriage Marathon Pair Division 2 years consecutively, and winning the 4 in hand division in 2006.
With Roy’s valuable input Signature have designed the ultimate driving glove, the aim was to make a glove that feels like a second skin helping the rider and horse communicate as one.
When asked why he wanted to help design and endorse this glove, Roy said, “When it comes to driving the only way to communicate with a horse is through our hands! We need gloves to protect our hands, but not obstruct the feeling we have with the horses mouth”.
He added, “I’ve tried many types of gloves that were designed for driving but found the gloving leather too thick with too much reinforcement around the fingers, so I found it hard to feel the horses mouth, and lost the communication needed to drive successfully. The Pittards WR100X leather in the Signature glove is the right thickness and really does feel like a second skin solving the communication problem and providing the ultimate grip on the reins”.
Roy finished off by adding “driving horses for any length of time can be tough on your hand with poorly designed gloves, this glove gives you the comfort and fit without unnecessary stress to the driver making your driving experience a happy one”.
